The recent spell of lovely summer weather has been showing off the fruits of Pickering & District Civic Society’s labours at its best.  With funding from victory in the Green Neighbourhood Challenge, matched by a generous grant from the Co-op, P&DCS worked in conjunction with Pickering in Bloom to plant a community herb garden on Smiddy Hill.  This was followed by a complete revamp of the Town Council’s Smiddy Hill Lavender bed, that had become very overgrown.  Two small trees were also planted to improve the Willow Court area. All have survived the long hard winter and are now contributing to keeping Pickering attractive to residents and tourists alike.  It’s an excellent example of how community groups can work together to benefit the town, but many hands make light work and we’d all appreciate more of those helping hands.
